The Team

Hamish, Finn and Tom met while studying engineering at University, and were connected by a passion to make a difference to the world through technology. Following undergraduate study, Hamish identified a technology that appeared could be used to measure the water potential of plants directly from the stem. Excited by the value it could offer for growers, he reached out to Finn, who quit his job developing mechanical designs for several established New Zealand companies to join the team and they started trials with commercial growers in Hawkes Bay in late 2020.

After proof-of-concept in these early trials, they met Nick Fitzpatrick who had a shared passion for making a difference to the world and brought the commercial nous and connections needed to engage with growers both in New Zealand and globally. At the same time, Hamish and Finn convinced Tom to leave his role in a high growth New Zealand IoT startup to join Croptide as CTO. The team are driven by a shared passion for providing technology to help growers deal with the huge global challenges in fresh water availability that are mounting as a result of climate change.
